Culture passed on through practice
Ulupamir is a neighbourhood of Erciş known for the cultural life of its residents of Kyrgyz origin. A provincial cultural transmission project brought together traditional clothing, crafts, games and musical instruments. These are skills learned and practised, as well as objects that can be displayed.
Asking how a garment is made or a melody learned can reveal as much as watching a performance.
Horses and kökbörü
Equestrian displays feature in Ulupamir’s cultural events, and kökbörü is one of the traditional mounted sports associated with the neighbourhood. Federation records document competitions held here.
If you would like to see a competition or cultural event, choose a date from current announcements. Event days offer an opportunity to encounter these traditions together.
A neighbourhood encounter
Ulupamir is also a place where people live, work and go to school. Ask before photographing people and respect private spaces. Leaving room for everyday life makes the visit a more considerate encounter with a living culture.
